More fear than harm in the metro. An unbalanced 25-year-old was arrested for attempted homicide on Monday night at Gare-de-Est station after pushing a stranger onto the tracks. Around a quarter past midnight, the officials of the transport brigade were called by the RATP because a disturbing figure was causing trouble in the underground passages of the metro. Network surveillance cameras allowed them to identify an agitated man breaking street furniture and shouting “Allahu akbar” on the platform of line 5, which leads to Place-d’Italie.
The suspect, of Tunisian origin, was arrested and at the same time, a victim made herself known. She explained that she had just been attacked on line 7. The other passenger clearly identifies the attacker who had just pushed him onto the tracks of the line for no reason at all. Fortunately, no metro arrived at that time and he was not injured.
The pusher was taken into custody in the premises of the regional transport service. He met a psychiatrist who quickly examined him before concluding that he was not enjoying all of his mental faculties. This dangerous figure was taken to a mental hospital where he was interned under duress….
