Foxconn Will Double Salaries for Lowest-Paid China Workers After Suicides

anyways...

Longbow, you're entitled to your views.

Maybe you may have a different view when you see how the people work in Factories in China.

Best of luck... hope you don't end up being one of those minimum wage capitalist.

36% of pop in China live on less than US$2 a day or $60 per month.

fact that they are not keeling over and dying from starvation is proof that in certain parts of China, $2 a day is more than enough for simple food and shelter.

For the 36% falling in this demographic group, making US$300 a month is a huge bonus.

To put things in perspective, Foxconn has workforce of 300K. And they have 10 suicides.

Suicide rate per 100K pop per year in USA is 17, France is 25, japan is 35, Swiss 23, UK is 10.

Perhaps it is not just pay but the monotony of the work. More frequent breaks, upgrade of lighting and color of factory floor, music could all work to improve the env

Dear Longbow,

What you have stated are facts, no doubt about it.

However, in order to truly understand what kind of life the young lads in the factories are going through, you would have to be physically there, and see it for yourself.

Yes, USD 300 may appear alot, however, I doubt USD 300 is actually paid out.

If you compare the farm lands versus city life, many farmers would tell you that they prefer farm life, as there is social time, and entertainment time, and everyone can truly live their own life.

Besides, China depends a lot of the farmers to grow food for the populous nation, and therefore the tax free policy for farmers.

Your angle is logical, factual.

However life is always contrary to logical and factual, its all emotional.

I am beginning to suspect that you will end up becoming one of the Taiwanese Capitalist.

It is NOT alright to simply exchange money for a free person's social well being.
