SINGAPORE : Four youths, aged 13 to 19, have been arrested for breaking into a provision shop along Ang Mo Kio Ave 4.

Police said that on June 22 at about 12.30am, an off-duty police officer was in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Ave 4 when he spotted the youths behaving suspiciously outside the provision shop.

He called for assistance. Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division responded promptly to the scene and detained three of the youths.

After questioning them, police found that the three suspects had broken into the provision shop with a fourth person.

The fourth suspect was traced and arrested in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

Following a search, the officers recovered six cartons of cigarettes believed to have been stolen during the break-in, as well as housebreaking implements comprising a cutter, screwdriver and spanner.

All four suspects will be charged in court on June 24 for Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with imprisonment of up to 14 years.
