‘Fountain of youth’ pill could boost the aging immune system
Thursday, December 16, 2010
New York, Dec 16 ( NEWS) Man’s search for a way to spend much longer time on this planet continues.
Doctors say they have manufactured the drug that will ensure that even older adults will continue to live stronger and healthier lives. The drug which has been dubbed “fountain of youth pill” is expected to bolster the immune system of aged people.
The researchers hope that being healthy during the advanced age of their lives will help the older generation to contribute positively to the society. The drug might also help to improve the quality of life of aged people and it is expected that most of the diseases associated with old age will be eliminated.
The researchers led by Dr Edward Goetzl of University of California studied elderly people. Their levels of the immune system chemicals called cytokines were observed.
It was found that elderly pensioner had particularly low level of the chemical compared to those of the younger healthier ones. The scientists are however clear on their expectations. They say that they are not after living longer but by living healthier.
Dr. Goetzl said that, “No one is talking about longevity and lifespan now but about health span.”
