A former management executive with Siglap South Community Centre, Tan Wei Siong has been jailed 11 weeks for having commercial sex with an underaged prostitute, in the high-profile case that has seen senior public servants, a former school principal and a businessman among those charged with the same offence.
The 37-year-old pleaded guilty in court today (19 December) to a single charge of having commercial sex with an underaged prostitute.
The underaged prostitute was 17-year-old at that time and Tan paid S$450 to have sex with her at Hotel 81 Bencoolen on 6 October.
The court heard that Tan got to know about the girl through a website advertising escort services of various women, operated by a 38-year-old pimp, Tang Boon Thiew who has been charged seperately.
On 5 October, Tan sent an SMS to Tang enquiring if the girl was available.
When Tang replied “yes”, Tan proceeded to book the hotel room for 6 October.
The maximum penalty for commercial sex with a person below 18 is seven years’ jail and a fine.

Why not just reduce the legal age of consent to 16, no matter if it is paid sex or not?
Reach 16th birthday = fair game. How about that?

In the good old days, if a girl is old enough to bleed every month, she's old enough to breed. Sexual maturity arrives at the age of 12 or 13 for girls. If the parents give their consent she would be given away in marriage. This is a fact of life, there is no need for sham modesty.
