SINGAPORE: More needs to be done to strengthen community ties, especially with new citizens and permanent residents (PRs) in the mix, said Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Lawrence Wong.

He also said in Parliament his ministry is looking at ways to foster better integration.

He added the National Integration Council and its partners are helping new citizens and PRs adapt to local norms and values.

This will help them to interact meaningfully with Singaporeans and contribute to nation-building.

Mr Wong stressed that social ties across different communities are important due to Singapore's multi-racial and multi-religious society.

Mr Wong said: "We cannot force this, but we must do our best to encourage it. Singaporeans need to know one another, socialise together, and make friends who belong to different races and religions. This is the way to widen the common ground and achieve unity and diversity. More importantly, community-building, like culture, cannot be done by a single agency. It has to be embedded within the work of the entire government."

Lawrence Wong must be sleeping in his Ivorty Tower for too long.Go to Golden Mile,Lucky Plaze,Peninsula Plaza and Serangoon Road where the are pockets and colonies of Foreigners Thai,Pinoy,Burmese and Indians.PAP should instruct the Foreigners to integrate with us Sinkees and not asking us Sinkees to integrate with Foreigners.Who the fark are these Foreigners ? What are so great about these Foreigners ? If Lawrence Wong thinks they are so great he can keep them in his home.This is called putting the horse before the cart.Foreigeers come into our countyr to compete with us for jobs and housing and transport and education and healthcare ,they MUST integrate with us.Lawrenc Wong must have his head examined to get his priorities right ,Singaporean Come First.Either he is in denial mode or plain stupid ! If you wantch to be an international city, then you need foreigners.
take for example london. Soon, less than half the population of london will be british. the british/english are moving away to the suburbs where it is cheaper and where the english way of life are maintained.

So singkies will have to do the same. Move to the suburbs like iskandar zone, JB, batam and bintan. Otherwise, just shut up and keep quiet.

i think it is the same with New York with regards to foreigners as to London.

New york and London got mix FTs from different cuntries. Peesai only attracts FTs from a handfull of SE asian nations. Nearly 2 million bangla, pinoy and ah tiongs. How to integrate with people that already have a huge tight group.
