Hi Gilbert
I am in the manpower industry sector and familiar with some of the bogus means by which a large number of Indians from India have utilised in the past and continue to do so now to acquire their EP, PR and Citizenship and the newly created S Passes.
Unqualified and under-qualified individuals pay amounts in Rupees equivalent to as much as $10,000 to manpower agencies and their middlemen in India, who in turn, prepare the false certificate from a university – the individual had not attended or know about and a trade attachment certificate that is patently fictitious.
I am sure there are thousands of others from PRC and elsewhere who are doing likewise.
It is shocking indeed that the Government can allow itself to be so bamboozled. These individuals and their agents will be laughing to themselves how stupid our Government is.
How to ferret out these people and prevent such things from occurring here?
Singapore has a free trade agreement or something similar to this with India. Take it up with the Indian authorities to establish a framework to facilitate the checking of the authenticity of University degrees issued by both countries, when one party requests for this from the other. The same arrangement should be made with other countries from where we recruit professional and skill workers,
Hopefully once the above arrangement is being worked, consider giving amnesty to those who have acquired PR and citizenship by false means, to own up and be repatriated failing which they should be severely dealt with.
A contact of mine told me teasingly that if he were to cast a fishing net over the Indian workers in Little India on Sundays, where they gather in hundreds, half of them would be illegal workers or over-stayers. And I don’t think he is wrong at all.
