The first step for Singapore’s reinvention lies with recognizing the seriousness of its challenges. The policies of the past may have worked impressively, but may not be as appropriate in the future. As my old Japanese sensei Jiro Tokuyama once noted: the hardest thing to do is how to unlearn the secrets of your past success. The ingredients in the cocktail that is Singapore need to be tweaked for a new era.

Most Singaporeans admire the accomplishments of the PAP, and the generally successful outcomes of its policies , but clearly there is a desire for a change of direction. How Singapore addresses these problems is important not just for the city-state, or even Asia, but the entire world. The Singaporean model remains an inspiration to city-builders , and how it meets its contemporary challenges could prove critical in an age where the majority of people live in urban areas.

Leegime has run out of tricks. Stupid old man who is still wanted by the Kempetai (which Abe is keeping track for his granddaddy), thought that think smart cheating short cuts can patchwork everything for the long term. It has failed even mid term some many times requiring radical course change policies which also failed. Basically, no understanding of the borrowing economy. It is a fraud game and you need to find suckers. Holding the IOUs is for the biggest fool.

i sympathize with the pap to some degree. the lack of inspiration, the incompetence and maladministration in the government. the pap suffers from what any government suffers from when it stays too long in power.

it is really better for the people if the pap lose power and start all over again.

It all boils down to the adage repeated ad nauseam
Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely

Until the 60% wakes up .........sigh

When you have power concentrated in the hands of a few elites and inter-married families, what inevitably happens is complacency, greed, and a bunch of fools and flatterers rising to positions of leadership.

Nothing is going to get better, everything is going to get worse. What goes up must come down. It's like the law of gravity. When the conditions are right, societies go through a 'hard reset' and everything starts from scratch again.

The PAP is just like the human body. When it sits too long on its arse, blood is not going to its head so much, and the brain becomes sluggish, and the limbs generally turn lazy and fat. It then uses its mouth to give orders but never moving its legs about to check if things are carried out properly.

Very good observation. My sentiments exactly.

In your opinion, when did LEEgime go downhill? before 2000, 2004 or 2007?

PAP lacks good leadership. Even GCT was basically cruising on the momentum of the earlier years. LHL, is a brilliant guy for sure, be never really learnt leadership because his path was made smooth. The momentum of the earlier years is petering out and no person of vision can be seen, at least not in the PAP. The ones you need to sympathize with are ordinary Singaporeans. When the PAP screws up, the elites are cushioned but the people suffer.
