The govt’s financial reserves are estimated to be around $3 trillion, but the land it owns is worth several times that amount. The value of this land increases every time a new HDB record is set. The govt uses the excuse of rising property prices to divert more money from the national budget into housing subsidies, which then flow back into the reserves when land is sold to HDB and private developers. This is done without having to spend money on things that would genuinely improve the lives of S'poreans.

you’ll have to fork out 69 times more to rescue, renovate, remodel one house and 6.9k times more to recover a small village. plus tax traps, maintenance, garbage disposal, street cleaning, water and power services, sewage discharge, etc. and you need (young) people to populate the village. otherwise it’s a medical and geriatric nightmare with no hospital and medical staff nearby. for sinkies, no convenience, no cdc voucher, no food court nor hawker center, no go.
