A Singaporean man, who pretended to be hit by a car following a road dispute, was sentenced on Feb. 24 to 10 days’ jail and fined S$80, Shin Min Daily News reported.
He was also disqualified from driving for two years.
The incident occurred after his vehicle was involved in a collision in Sentosa in January 2024.Following the collision, the man, 60-year-old Foong Theen Heng, confronted the other driver and his family while filming them and shouting.
He subsequently lunged forward to make contact with the other car as it was moving off before throwing himself onto the road, falsely giving the impression that the vehicle had struck him.
Foong was charged with one count of creating a public nuisance, one count of violating the Road Traffic Act, and one count of violating the Road Traffic (Pedestrian Crossings) Rules. He pleaded guilty to two charges on Apr. 23, 2025, with the remaining charge taken into consideration during sentencing.
Suddenly cut into another man's lane
According to court documents seen by Mothership, the incident took place at around 9:30am on Jan. 28, 2024.
A man, surnamed Soh, was driving along Telok Blangah Road towards Sentosa Gateway when Foong, who was travelling in an adjacent lane, abruptly cut into Soh’s lane without signalling, forcing Soh to brake his car suddenly to avoid a collision. Both vehicles later proceeded onto Sentosa Gateway and travelled along the same lane, with Foong's car ahead of Soh's.
Despite having no vehicles ahead, Foong suddenly braked abruptly, causing Soh to brake again to avoid hitting him.
The situation escalated when Soh then overtook Foong and cut into his lane without signalling before braking suddenly.Foong later overtook Soh from the left, entered Soh’s lane and applied his brakes intermittently despite clear road conditions.
This eventually resulted in a low-speed collision between both vehicles.
Soh’s car sustained dents and scratches to its front, while Foong’s vehicle suffered damage to its rear bumper.
No injuries were reported, including among Soh’s family members who were in the car.Lunged towards the car and threw himself onto the road
After the collision, both men exited their vehicles. While Soh took photographs for insurance purposes, Foong confronted him and his family while recording them and shouting.
When Soh attempted to leave, Foong obstructed him by repeatedly opening the car door and standing in front of the vehicle.
He also deliberately lunged towards the moving car and then threw himself onto the road, shouting, "He hit me", and "How can he hit me?" in English and Hokkien, in an apparent attempt to attract the attention of passers-by.His actions resulted obstructed traffic along Sentosa Gateway, forcing vehicles behind to stop.
The incident ended after Soh drove away and lodged a police report at about 1pm that day.
