At-Thahabi said that Jihad is part of a Muslim's manhood, emphasizing that Muslim men do not send their wives to wage Jihad on their behalf. He said that Muslims should defend their religion, not apologize for Jihad, and not be afraid of it. He added that Christians do not practice anything Jesus brought and that Jesus was not sent as a prophet to them.
In a May 2 sermon, At-Thahabi said that while individuals such as President Jimmy Carter (whom he referred to as "Peanut Man"), Mother Teresa, and Martin Luther King Jr. may have been "great personalities," they would not enter Paradise because they were born infidels and did not embrace Islam. He also called President Barack Obama a "devil," adding that Obama does not represent him or his community.
At-Thahabi further cited a hadith stating that if a Muslim is walking down the street, he should compel non-Muslims to move to the more "difficult" side of the path, in order to show them the "dominance" of Islam.
Usama At-Thahabi: "Muslims are men who defend themselves, they defend their religion, they defend their principles – what they believe in – they don't apologize about Jihad, they are not afraid of Jihad. It is a part of who we are.

"The Muslim is an individual, part of his manhood – being a man – is not that our wives do Jihad – we do Jihad.

"Those Christians, they are not practicing anything of what Jesus Son of Mary brought, not only they are not practicing it, he didn't come for them.

"I think that guy, that man from Georgia, the Peanut Man... Yeah, I think Carter is one of the people from this [non-Muslim] society who had some backbone, stood up for the situation about Palestine, but he's just a puppet... He can't really say... Someone [could] say: 'What about your boy Obama?' My brother, give me a break, give me a break. Obama was a devil, a Satan, and he wasn't for me or for my people what we represent.
[...]
"So the person who is a non-Muslim... What's that lady's name, from India... Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King... All of these people, great personalities historically, but on Judgement Day, the doors of Paradise will not be opened for them, they won't be open. Why? Because they are infidels from birth.

"If non-Muslims are walking down the street, and you are on the same side as them, then make them go to the part of the street that's difficult, show them the dominance of Islam.

"The hadith said, show them the dominance of the Muslim – when you have the power, you do that."
