Man drowns after drinks at Zouk

HE WENT overboard with the drinks during a function at Zouk and paid for it with his life. Mr Jordan Ng Shi Han, 22, fell into a nearby river and drowned at about 10.15pm on Jan 7 this year.
At the inquiry into the death of the civil defence national serviceman, state coroner Victor Yeo noted that Mr Ng had an alcohol-blood content nearly three times that of the stipulated limit for drink-driving.
Staff-sergeant Sky Ngan Soo Meng, the investigation officer, told the inquiry that Mr Ng went to Zouk at 6pm with Ms Teo Wan Tong, a 22-year-old customer service officer. They left at 9.20pm but taxi drivers did not want to pick them up as he was drunk and rowdy. As they were walking to Zion Road, they separated and that was the last time, she saw him alive.
Mr Ng Peng Yu, 19, a full-time national serviceman, was walking home from the Great World City mall. On the bridge across the river near Mirage condominium. He saw Mr Ng lying on his back by the side of the river and shouting loudly. Moments later, he saw Mr Ng roll down the slope into the river. The intoxicated man struggled briefly and then disappeared into the water.
Coroner Yeo said that evidence indicates no foul play and that Mr Ng fell into the river in an intoxicated state and drowned.
