A plane passenger who tried to open the emergency exit doors while the craft was mid-flight – and two others who joined him in a scuffle with flight attendants – have reportedly been detained by Chinese police.

A Capital Airlines plane had been flying from Changsha in Hunan province to Sanya in Hainan on Monday afternoon when the flight attendants noticed the man trying to open the door, zgjtb.com, a news portal under the Ministry of Transport, cited a microblogger as saying.

When the plane’s crew stopped him he threatened to commit suicide. A scuffle then broke out in which two other passengers joined the man in fighting the crew.

However, the flight attendants subdued the trio and alerted airport police.

“It’s really not an easy job to be flight crew, especially when facing the daredevils,” the microblogger, RogerStandy, said. “Fortunately knives are banned on flights.”

The flight landed safely in Sanya at around 2pm.

A staff member at Sanya Phoenix International Airport confirmed there was such a case, but said the airport authority was still checking the details.

This is a domestic flight, so bo bian.

Otherwise, it's high time IATA worked together to limit the number of Chinese tourists travelling overseas via plane. All international flights should implement a "flight VISA" for this special breed of Chinese tourists, and those without flight VISA should not be allowed on board.

Airlines should also charge a premium on ALL Chinese tourists and passengers (from mainland China) to ensure that only the rich and best are entitled to fly.

I'm beginning to miss Mao Zedong. He did a great job by keeping the Chinese citizens within the borders.

This type of event will eventually happen. Is either sooner or later only.

How you expect tiongs where high % are smokers, to be in a cabin without fresh air for a period of time?

Airline should design an aeroplane where it's windows can be open mid-flight.....only for the tiongs.
