Flash floods hit Bukit Timah again

For the second time in less than a month, Singapore was hit by flash floods again which was unreported by the mainstream media to save the “face” of the PAP regime.

Just two weeks ago, parts of Singapore’s Central Business District were submerged in flood water after a heavy downpour. (read more here)

According to some readers, some parts of Bukit Timah, Jalan Besar, Newton and Novena were flooded yesterday, much to the embarrassment of the PAP regime which is fast running out of time to control the recurrent spate of floods.

Photos of the flooding were taken by a netizen who uploaded it to STOMP here.

PAP MP Dr Teo Ho Pin said during a recent interview with the media that the flash floods is one of the many issues that the PAP regime must tackle before the coming general election.

When the floods first hit Singapore last year November, PAP minister Dr Yaacob Ibrahim claimed that they are “freak events which occur once in fifty years.”

Less than one year later, Singapore has been flooded so many times now that NEA has to issue a flood alert everytime it rains.

Much to the chagrin and disbelief of Singaporeans, PAP leaders downplay their concerns and blame them for “complaining” too much.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that flooding is “inevitable” in “tropical” Singapore while his father PAP strongman Lee Kuan Yew chastised Singaporeans for wanting “everything to be perfect” and proclaimed that the floodings were “an act of God” which “no amount of engineering can prevent.”

Singaporeans, especially those living in the flood-prone areas should heed the advice of Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong to stop “griping” and start taking “action” soon in the coming general election.

I wonder how much of the flooding is due to the underground space taken up by the MRT tunnels. The recent major underground works have been the NE line, KPE tunnel and the Circle line. Most of these are around the central and central-eastern areas. As the tunnels must be waterproof, I wonder if there was any planning in place to allow the water that used to seep underground into this space to drain away properly?

I can't think of another country within the tropical belt that has so much underground digging within a small area. HK is the only one that comes close but it is at the edge of the tropical belt and I think they only get extremely heavy rainfall during a typhoon.

Spore was in the past flood free, but recently whenever it rains floods are likely to follow. Something the PAP has done is causing the problem.

Only way to get to the bottom of the problem is to put more opposition into parliament & let them work for Sporeans by digging for the truth.

Kl, Manila, Jkt...have no MILLIONARE MINISTERS, they do not have world class, Swiss Class or out of this world class standard, we have in SINgapore...

Their flooding is sasonal & due to poor irrigation management the cities flood....but SINgapore...we have the PUB & Abang, who is paid , how many 'peanuts'...and we get floods??

Ok lah!...Act of God...

This amount of flooding is a regression of standards. PAP has always claimed to be world class, they must take this dropping of standards seriously.
