Taipei, Dec. 16 (CNA) Five Vietnamese nationals were arrested in Hsinchu City Tuesday in connection with the killing of a fellow countryman, according to police.
The deceased, who police identified by his surname Nguyen, was allegedly invited along with a dozen Vietnamese workers in Taiwan to celebrate the birthday of a female coworker at a small restaurant in Xizhi, New Taipei on Dec. 6.
One of the men became jealous after seeing the birthday girl interacting closely with Nguyen and started a fight, police said.
The man who initiated the fight and several friends then waited outside the restaurant, where they attacked Nguyen and his friends with clubs and fruit knives, police said.
Nguyen suffered five stab wounds in the back, police said.
Police tracked down the five suspects to an apartment in Hsinchu Tuesday and sent them to the Shilin District Prosecutors Office for a criminal investigation.
