Australian media reported on Tuesday (18 Apr) that at least five universities in Australia are cracking down on students from India after experiencing a surge in fraudulent student visa applications.

An investigation by Australian newspapers The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald has revealed that at least five of the Australian universities — Victoria University, Edith Cowan University, the University of Wollongong, Torrens University, and Southern Cross University — are putting in place bans on Indian students from some states to pre-empt greater restrictions being imposed by the Australia government.

The Australian government does apply ratings to countries it deems to have a higher risk of entrants not abiding by the terms of their visas. Many of the students from these countries were found to be prone to working illegally after landing in Australia.

A government spokesperson said that since the easing of COVID-19 border restrictions in 2021 they had “witnessed an increase in incomplete applications and presentation of fraudulent information and documentation in student visa applications”.

One of the reasons why more Indian students want to study in Australia now is due to the recent signing of a wide-ranging agreement making it easier for citizens to travel and study between India and Australia.

In February, some 94 per cent of applications from India to study in Australia’s vocational sector were rejected by the Australian government.

Insiders have accused education agencies, who help recruit prospective international students in exchange for commissions, of misleading conduct.

In March, Canada expelled more than 150 Indian students for entering the country on forged college admission letters.

The students claimed to have been duped by an immigration consultation agency in India that provided them with the forgeries.

These are lousier universities in Australia, comparable with our ITEs.

In India and China, even if it is real A-levels exams or SATS, the private schools help them cheat to score better. Why do you think India and China can send so many students to top UK and US universities?

Indian-origin Leo Varadkar, former Irish Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Fine Gael party, has been elected as the new prime minister of Ireland following a vote in the lower house of the Irish parliament.
On Saturday, total of 87 members of the house voted in favour of his nomination as the new prime minister while 62 members voted against it, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Following his appointment as new prime minister by Irish President Michael D. Higgins, Varadkar announced a reshuffle of the cabinet.
According to a list of the cabinet members, former Irish Prime Minister and leader of Fianna Fail Micheal Martin will become the new deputy prime minister and minister for foreign affairs and defence while former Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence Simon Coveney will become minister for enterprise, trade and employment.

Former Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe will be the minister for public expenditure and reform while former Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Michael McGrath will take Donohoe's position as the new finance minister.
There are altogether 15 members in the cabinet. All the positions held by other cabinet members have remained the same.

After the nomination was approved by the lower house of the Irish parliament, the new cabinet held its first meeting on Saturday night.
This is the second time that Varadkar has been elected as Irish prime minister. He first became the Irish prime minister in June 2017. In June 2020, the Fine Gael party led by Varadkar formed a coalition government with Fianna Fail and Green Party, in which he served as deputy prime minister and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

According to an agreement reached by the three parties in setting up a coalition government, Fianna Fail party leader Micheal Martin will first serve as Irish prime minister until December 2022 and Fine Gael party leader Varadkar will replace Martin to be the new prime minister until the five-year term of the current government comes to an end.
