In a statement, the SNEF also responded to a suggestion by the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) of having two days' mandatory paternity leave: Legislating more types of leave "creates an entitlement mentality which is an unhealthy work value", it said.

Compartmentalising leave benefits based on the different needs of employees would also restrict how companies manage employee needs and relations while adding to labour costs, it added.
