First men's dialogue on marriage, parenthood

SINGAPORE - Minister Grace Fu will be conducting a marriage and parenthood dialogue with men on Thursday to encourage more Singaporeans to start families and embrace parenthood.

This is Ms Fu’s first public engagement session on population matters since taking office as Minister in the Prime Minister's Office.

She will be joined by Mdm Halimah Bte Yacob, Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports and Dr Janil Puthucheary, Grassroots Adviser to Pasir Ris-Punggol Grassroots Organisations.

The dialogue session, organised by the People's Association (PA) will involve about 80 men from the Grassroots Organisations, Corporate Associations, Institutes of Higher Learning and Voluntary Welfare Organisations.

"As important stakeholders in marriage and parenthood, this session is critical to hear the views and suggestions from men; in their roles as father, husband, son, fiance, boyfriend or employer towards marriage and parenthood policies," said PA in a media statement.

The PA has organised a similar dialogue sessions with women. It was held on July 20 and was also chaired by Ms Fu.

every little issue until 70 per cent of population is convinced

Keep encouraging women to work..keep bringing in china chicks for
" Diploma in Management "...keep having full day school that starts at 7:30 am
and finish at 1.30pm and then start at 3:30 pm and finish at 5:30pmas if everyone
lives near school ( can go home to eat and come back ) ..


Govt policies meet the needs of the top 20 percent of our society . The rest struggling or condemned to
go to factory type neighborhood schools and finish off with GCE O Levels and compete with FTs for jobs!

SINGAPORE - Imparting family and marriage values through the school curriculum, having accessible, low-cost and quality childcare, treating employees' families as part of a larger company family as well as mandating paternity leave.

These were among the suggestions raised yesterday at the People's Association's (PA) first all-men's group dialogue on marriage and parenthood.

Other suggestions included having flexible work hours and providing a tax incentive for companies to create opportunities for singles to mingle.

The dialogue was chaired by Minister in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Grace Fu, along with Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports Halimah Yacob and Pasir Ris-Punggol Grassroots Adviser Janil Puthucheary.

A total of 88 men from grassroots organisations, corporate associations, institutes of higher learning and voluntary welfare organisations participated, with 60 per cent of them aged below 40.

"(Men) are an important stakeholder group because they are an important part of a family, they are a son, a husband, a father, a fiance, and they also play important roles in society", said Ms Fu, who was at her first public engagement session on population matters since taking office as Minister in the PMO.

Ms Fu, who chaired a similar session with women last month, said many suggestions raised in discussions so far focused on non-tangible and non-financial aspects, showing that "people are thinking deeper into the issue".

Urging Singaporeans to "think about the joy" of marriage and children, Madam Halimah said that it would be "terrible" if Singapore ends up with many elderly people living alone. Amir Hussain
