SINGAPORE - A huge fire was spotted by readers at the reclaimed island off north-east Singapore today.

Earlier reports put the location of the fire at Tekong island. However, Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has clarified that the fire was on an island between Singapore and Tekong island.

At 2.06pm, SCDF was alerted to a fire at above mentioned location. With the support of an SAF marine vessel, SCDF dispatched its vehicles and personnel to the location.

One fire engine, one red rhino, one supporting vehicle and two SCDF marine fire vessels were dispatched to the scene.

SCDF arrived on scene about an hour later, at about 3pm. About 10 fire-fighters were fighting the fire with two water jets.

The fire went on for several hours until late in the evening, where the huge blaze was only brought under control at about 4.30pm.

SCDF carried on with their fire-fighting operations on the reclaimed land to put out the remaining bits of fire.

The fire, which was about the size of a football field, had been reduced to small pockets of fire and confined within a sand bunk wall.

SCDF said the contents of the fire was made up of some construction-site machinery and equipment, and products believed to be used in land reclamation.

SCDF marine fire vessels were at the location pumping sea water to assist the fire-fighters on the ground fight the fire.

The fire was finally brought under control at about 6.30pm.

An SCDF spokesperson said that the only people on the island, which is not connected to mainland Singapore, are land reclamation workers.

There were no reported injuries at the time of this report.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and is currently under investigation.

You can clearly tell that there is more fuel on that reclaimed land than Jurong Island refineries.

WAF sort of fuel or inflammable stuff of such HUGE quantity could be there on the reclaimed land? Their sand / soil are so combustible?:rolleyes::eek:;):*:

Surely some secretly spent projects are there.

And they fucked it up alike MSK's nice swim to Johore.:p

Mother of all fires! Could be a storage area for aviation fuel and underground possibly. Sabotage or accident?

Possible. In that case Changi Airport's fuel are gone! Can write of many million dollars of fuel and planes are going to be stuck here on empty tanks!:D

Damn FIRST WORLD leh!

Probably too far to store fuel for passenger aircraft. I know that is a jetty at Changi Beach that allows the tankers to pump the aviation fuels to large storage tanks within Changi Airport itself. With its proximity to Tekong, fire was probably on military related equipment or stuff

Possible as you say. Could be the diesel fuel for the subs.

Omen for SG!

The flame and smoke looks too evil and black and huge.

Retribution for firing our favourite SCDF chief!:D

Sounds unlikely to store submarine fuel so near to Johor and unlikely there could be undersea pipelines as well since that tiny straits is quite busy with many ships. Interesting to know if there are any official statements or if any bros or sis here have inside info.

The fire is some combustible materials by the looks of it. Nothing can burn like that on empty land.

You are right. Nothing can burn like that. That fire looks like it can fight with 9/11 NYC World Trade Centre fires.

Someone must have screwed up badly to cause a fire like that and its unlikely MSM will likely to report it on the basis of OSA.

"official" version......SCDF said the contents of the fire was made up of some construction-site machinery and equipment, and products believed to be used in land reclamation.

Look at the pic again. Does that look like some construction-site machinery and equipment? I find that hard to believe.

There goes one secret dump. Since it is in that location, it can only be for offensive strategy.

maybe fuel dump gone up in smoke.

either that or SAF have some flame throwers and the excerise went haywired and the naplam combust.

Wow ... our carbon footprint just gotten BIGGER by this fire and negate all our past efforts in reducing it.

Seems like there is a cover up.

I can see the flames of Anwar's Bersil movements burning down to SG from the north. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Only a fool would believe this cover up. Again the 154th is not telling the truth.

It is obviously some fuel or ammo site or else the SAF won't be involved.

SCDF always telling the truth, modern machineries/equipments are mostly made of combustibles, also for land reclamation they definitely need to use materials that burn well. as for the thick smoke, i would say its lky's son's govt's way of sending signals [like sms and emails].
