AN UNEMPLOYED man was fined $2,000 on Monday for punching a National Parks Board ranger. Lee Ching Piew, 46, who pleaded guilty, was caught throwing a cigarette butt on the floor by senior tactical ranger Low Kwok Foo, 62, at Kallang Riverside Park on Sept 7. Mr Low asked for his identification but Lee ignored him after picking up the cigarette butt and disposing it in a trash bin. When Mr Low tried to stop Lee from walking away, a scuffle broke out. Lee kicked the victim on his leg and tried to flee. When the victim grabbed his shirt, Lee gave him a punch on the chest, causing the victim to fall. Lee could have been jailed for up to seven years or fined or cand or received any two such punishments.
