A WOMAN was fined $3,000 on Tuesday for feeding monkeys at Central Catchment Nature Reserve in Mandai.

Xiao Lexiang, 37, a housewife, admitted to throwing sweets at the monkeys from a vehicle along Old Upper Thomson access road on Feb 23 last year.

A magistrate's court heard that two Certis Cisco officers were on inspection rounds at the nature reserve when they saw Xiao feeding monkeys with sweets.

There were signboards prohibiting the feeding of monkeys there.

She could have been fined up to $50,000 or jailed for up to six months or to both under the Parks and Trees Act.

This is one of the best news in recent months! But the punishment must not only be carried out but seen by all to be carried out. It should be posted at all the entrances to the reserves.

There has been so many occasions I have had to tell visitors to the reserves not to feed the animals and to make sure whatever food they bring in is secured. Such inconsiderate people degrade the experience of the reserves for both humans and animals.

The adults behave like kids should be caned like kids at school as the old time punishment. Good idea to display the poster at the entrance to show the woman being caned on her buttocks to give a stern warning.
