I was just browsing thro the ST - not really reading when I came across this article. At first I dismissed it as another propagander article to booster the gahment case on procreation. As I read on, it became more interesting....$500k to bring up a child per family, $400k by the state. The author really hit the nail on the head..."Is your child worth it? Paying this amount to raise a child will cost you an annual retirement income stream of $20k." Then it got better. He then began criticising the gahment immigration policy. His point - new immigrant is a tangible dilution of the wealth of all Singaporeans ...because every new citizens has a claim to our reserves... Wow, this really made me sit up. All the posts...some in vitrol here and I see this point manifested in a data driven well written article in a gahment newspaper which more or less goes against the gahment's White Paper. Well that is very refreshing and unexpected.

all it need is a phone call from the family to make his job disappear.

You are forgetting that its the government that needs the kid more then the family that needs it. In a way, its also the "nation" that needs it if you think at a higher level. Without children now, there won't be future tax payers. So what if government pays $400K per child now, the kid should potentially grow up and give them millions in the future. What is troubling is that the government for reasons unknown keep pushing the economics of migration as beneficial but not raising the local population decline as much. Its as if they know its hard for middle class Singaporean to do so and are more willing to import then "insource"/grow its own local population. I suppose the idea is that the new FTs would stay and also contribute to the birth rate and also ensure the ruling party longevity in the future.

When that happens, FamiLEE will have created at least two people who will vote for the opposition: the writer of the article, his wife, his children, his parents, parents-in-law and relatives.

The famiLEE will then bring in 4 instant sinkie to vote for them in the next GE.

If we don't start voting them out in 2016, we will be in for more shit.
