2 types of Chinese pills may cause serious side effects

THE Health Sciences Authority (HSA) advises the public not to consume traditional Chinese medicines Ren Sem Tu Chon Chin Kuo Pill and Huo Li Bao as they can cause serious side effects.

These have been detected to contain potent western medicines and they are illegal adulterated products not approved by the HSA.

* Ren Sem Tu Chon Chin Kuo Pill

A product packaged in yellow labelled box containing round black pills that are used for pain relief. It contains dexamethasone and chlorpheniramine.

* Huo Li Bao

A product packaged in green box containing green capsules packed in foiled blisters. These capsules are used to treat pain from arthritis. It contains piroxicam, chlorpheniramine and frusemide

These products are bought from overseas and are not available for sale in local retail outlets.
