The decision to grant the public transport companies a 1 percent hike in fares by the PAP-controlled Public Transport Council (PTC) has befuddled netizens who question why its Chairman Gerald Ee was so ‘eager’ to ‘help’ SBS and SMRT while dragging his feet over the review of ministerial salaries.
Gerald Ee is also the Chairman of the Committee to review the obscene salaries of PAP ministers which was formed on 11 May 2011 at the ‘request’ of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. However, nearly three months have passed and there are still no updates from Mr Ee.
Kim Lee wrote on TR Facebook:
“I’m surprised that it only takes one month for PTC to decide on public transport fare increase affecting millions of Singaporeans everyday, comparing to the ministers’ pay review that is still ongoing after 2.5 months which is affecting just 14 people.”
Iceman added:
“Can you guys translate this into real monetary figure? Like S$300million or S$500million or what? Because your 15cts per week for 85 percent of commuters is misleading or trying to be mis-information……to make your committee looks good! BTW, what is the outcome on the ministerial pay cuts and pension thin—-??? Haven’t heard from your bunch of committee for ages already………..”
Unicorn poured scorn on Gerald Ee:
“Mr. Ee, review of Public Transport fare fast and smooth, conclusion right away. But the review of your boss’ salaries was handed up 1st and much earlier time, WHY SEE NO LIGHT? More complicated, need more time, or the case already shaft aside quietly by the “PAng Pui” govt?”
Extracts from the Annual Reports of SBS and SMRT on their percentage of their profit after tax against revenue for the last 5 years revealed that they have been making healthy profits all along:
SMRT year 2006-14.5%, 2007-18.2%, 2008-18.7%, 2009-18.5%, 2010-18.2%
SBS year 2006-8.9%, 2007-7.5%, 2008-5.6%, 2009-7.8%, 2010-7.5%
Based on the latest figure of 5 million trips per day, SMRT & SBS stands to make an additional profit of approximately $56 million a year with the latest pay hike.
While ordinary Singaporeans have to struggle daily to make ends meet, they are still paying the astronomical pensions of PAP ministers who have stepped down from cabinet such as Lee Kuan Yew, Goh Chok Tong, Wong Kan Seng and Mah Bow Tan.
We call on Gerald Ee not to procrastinate further and make public the proposals of his committee to reduce the salaries and pensions of the PAP ministers as soon as possible!

PAP is like the hydra, many greedy heads keep popping up. Only way to stop them is to kill the body.

The PAP is responsible for setting the rules of the game in Spore. Whoever takes over from them will "fix" the PAP using the same harsh rules:rolleyes:

This country looks more and more like Qing dynasty in the last days, Cixi and cronies making obscene money while the people suffer and foreigners invaded!
