Dental clinic inflexible on deposit

I WAS persuaded by the dentist at Toa Payoh Dental Clinic to have my wisdom tooth extracted and made an appointment to do this last Friday.
Unwilling to have the tooth extracted, I wondered if a private dentist could do a filling instead. I was happy that a private dentist was able to patch it and this was done last Tuesday afternoon.
I then called Toa Payoh Dental Clinic immediately after the treatment to cancel my Friday appointment, conscious of the risk of forfeiting my deposit. My call was not answered and I left a message explaining why I needed to cancel the appointment. However, on Wednesday an executive called to say there was no getting round it, and my deposit would be forfeited.
In the past, I have called to ask if I could squeeze in an appointment but was turned down because all the slots were full. The clinic had two and a half days to allow someone else to take my slot, so I cannot understand its insistence on forfeiting my deposit.
