North Korean leader Kim Jong Un says Pyongyang has suspended its nuclear and long-range missile tests, and will shut down its atomic test site.

"From April 21, North Korea will stop nuclear tests and launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs)," the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

"The North will shut down a nuclear test site in the country's northern side to prove the vow to suspend nuclear test."

It's not fake news. It's bullshit news. Soo many agreements in the past have been violated by the Kim's...they extract heaps of concessions than go back to the same testing etc...I hope Trump don't fall for it. N the more deals in destroying the north Kim chees the worse it gets because it gives them more time to develop their missiles n bombs n further more..they will get trade concessions etc which will enable them to earn the foreign exchange to develop their nukes further. I will only believe them if they fully de-nuclearise. Like gadaffi..but I doubt that will happen

Don't think Trump will fall for it, he is not like his predecessors. He is unpredictable and is not a pussy although he likes to grab them. He can't fire Kim, but I think the US and the world will not get a raw deal out of this.

Kim Jong Nuke strategy and techniques are PERFECT.

He already succeeded in Hwasong-15 & H-BOMB designs, but he need time to manufacture up to quantity and safely keep stocks in well protected underground facilities. He need no immediate blasting test nor launching tests for the time being. The security of NK and himself will only firm up when his Hwasong-15 & H-bomb warheads combination are stocked up 50 functional units or 100 units. Plus the training of sufficient crews skilled to launch them. These things needs time.

For Dotard time is crucial to not let Kim Jong Nuke have time to multiply this Strategic Nuke Success results. But Dotard is STUPID!

Kim Jong Nuke == SMART, he played Olympic and Dance & Art cards, and played Xijinping cards, all these civilized wayangs to buy time. As he watch stage performance from K-pop & Chinese Operas, his factories are busy assembling Hwasong-15, and refining Uranium for the necessary quantities. His promises are correct for himself = no test blasting and launching because these are UNNECESSARY for the time being. Only when he want new models and bigger warheads then he will need tests. Now his already working model can deliver H-Bomb to continental USA, and he must FIX the production model and to build up quantity to mushroom as many cities in USA as possible.

By June, he will be a firm and confident nuke power state. He can parade his huge fleet of ICBMs like Tian-An-Men, Dotard then know he is a dead man!

There is no point to threaten USA with less than 10 ICBMs. They can intercept some. You must have sufficient quantity and you need time to build. So Kim Jong Nuke played the perfectly correct game of buying time.

Read Carefully! Kim Jong Nuke halted TESTS, did not halt PRODUCTION / Training! Test is not what he need now, but PRODUCTION Definitely must be MAXIMUM for now, until he have 50~100 ready to launch Hwasong-15. He also must have sufficiently skilled launching crews, and many safe underground storage bunkers. Tests are only needed in next stage, after he got sufficient number of Hwasong-15 stock, when he need faster heavier Hwasong-16, possibly MIRV, un-interceptable.

North Korea's announcement that it is halting nuclear and missile tests has received a broad international welcome.

Leader Kim Jong-un said further tests were not needed, as the North had demonstrated it had nuclear weapons.

Donald Trump described the move as "good news" for the world, and South Korea said it was meaningful progress.

The EU said it was "positive", but called for complete denuclearisation. North Korea is preparing for historic summits with South Korea and the US.

Early on Saturday Kim Jong-un said: "From 21 April, North Korea will stop nuclear tests and launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles."

The surprise announcement, relayed by the country's KCNA news agency, also said a test site would be shut down.

Welcoming it on Twitter, Mr Trump said he was looking forward to a face-to-face meeting with Mr Kim in June.

Mr Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in are due to meet next week for the first inter-Korean summit in over a decade.

Mr Moon's office said the North's decision would "contribute to creating a very positive environment for the success of the upcoming South-North summit and North-United States summit."

European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said it was a "long sought-after step" that should lead to "verifiable and irreversible denuclearisation".

The call was echoed by the UK. The statement from the British government added: "We hope this indicates an effort to negotiate in good faith."

The US and its allies have been pushing Pyongyang to abandon nuclear weapons.

China, North Korea's main backer, said it believed the move would "help ameliorate the situation on the peninsula".

Russia's foreign ministry also welcomed it, but called on the US and South Korea to reduce their military activity in the region.

Why has Pyongyang halted tests?
In his statement, Mr Kim said it was no longer necessary to conduct missile tests because "nuclear weaponisation" had been achieved.

This echoes a previous statement made during a New Year address in which Mr Kim declared his nuclear and ballistic missile programmes completed.

Although Pyongyang said it would abolish its nuclear test site, there is no indication it is planning to get rid of its existing weapons.

The decision to halt missile tests is also aimed at pursuing economic growth, according to KCNA. Mr Kim reportedly pledged to "concentrate all efforts" on developing a socialist economy during Friday's meeting.

Media captionHow could war with North Korea unfold?
The summit is the prize
By Ankit Panda, senior fellow at the Federation of American Scientists

These concessions from North Korea have come before the two anticipated summits with the US and South Korea.

One may wonder why Mr Kim should give up so much in advance instead of hanging on to a nuclear test-ban and an ICBM moratorium as aces up his sleeve.

The answer is simple: a summit with a US president is enough of a prize in itself. For Mr Kim, it's something that neither his grandfather nor his father could attain.

What North Korea loses by demolishing its nuclear test site and submitting to a unilateral moratorium on ICBM launches is entirely tolerable compared with what Mr Kim gains by sitting alongside President Trump.

Major North Korean missile tests
North Korea has carried out numerous missile tests. Some of these exploded shortly after launch, but others travelled for hundreds of miles before landing in the sea. Here are some of the major tests reported last year alone:

12 February 2017 - A medium-range ballistic missile launched from Banghyon air base near the west coast. It flew east towards the Sea of Japan for about 500km.

4 July 2017 - Pyongyang claimed to have successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile for the first time. Officials said it reached an altitude of 2,802km and flew for 39 minutes.

29 August 2017 - North Korea fired what is thought to be its first nuclear-weapon capable ballistic missile over Japan. It was launched from near Pyongyang and reached a height of about 550km.

15 September 2017 - A ballistic missile was fired across Japan for the second time and landed in the sea off Hokkaido. It reached an altitude of about 770km and travelled 3,700km.

29 November 2017 - North Korea said it had successfully tested a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile that could reach the whole of the continental US. The Hwasong-15 missile landed in Japanese waters but flew higher than any other missile the North had previously tested.

North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs have allowed it to secure strategic stability and peace, so there is no need for additional missile and nuclear tests anymore, Kim Jong-un has proclaimed.
"From April 21, 2018, nuclear tests and intercontinental ballistic missile tests will be discontinued," the Korean Central News Agency cited Kim as saying at a plenary meeting of the central committee of the ruling Worker's Party of Korea (WPK).

Furthermore, since North Korea's nuclear test center has "completed" its mission, it "will be discarded in order to ensure the transparency of the nuclear test suspension," KCNA reported.

Announcing the new course, the ruling party has declared that North Korea "will never use nuclear weapons, unless there is nuclear threat or nuclear provocation to our country, and in no case we will proliferate nuclear weapons and nuclear technology."

In the announcement, North Korea noted that the "suspension of nuclear testing is an important process for global nuclear disarmament." Therefore, North Korea is willing to join international denuclearization efforts.

North Korea's last major missile test took place on November 29. Pyongyang announced at the time that it had tested a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile known as the Hwasong-15 that could reach the entire continental United States.

US President Donald Trump, who has traded insults and threats with Kim since taking office, tweeted that the latest decision by Pyongyang is "good news for North Korea and the world," calling it "big progress."

China has also hailed the move, expressing hope that Pyongyang will continue towards the path of denuclearization and "political settlement" on the Korean Peninsula. "Denuclearization of the peninsula and lasting peace in the region are in line with the common interests of the people of the peninsula," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

South Korea also praised the decision. The president's office called it "meaningful progress for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, which the world waits for."

The European Union's foreign affairs chief, Federica Mogherini, also called North Korea's announcement a step in the right direction. She called the move "a positive, long sought-after step on the path that has now to lead the country's complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization."

Japan, however, was less excited about the announcement. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe stated that while he wants to "welcome these positive moves," he wondered "if this will lead to the complete, verifiable, and irreversible dismantlement of its nuclear arsenal, weapons of mass destruction, and missiles."

The extraordinary development comes just ahead of Kim's meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in later this month. The announcement also follows US Secretary of State nominee Mike Pompeo's recent secret meeting with the North Korean leader in Pyongyang.

Trump is also preparing to meet Kim in the coming weeks. He has stressed on a number of occasions that Washington would keep up its "maximum pressure" campaign on North Korea until it agrees to denuclearize.

"Our campaign of maximum pressure will continue until North Korea will denuclearize," Trump said on Wednesday. "As I have said before, there is a bright path available to North Korea when it achieves denuclearization in a complete and verifiable and irreversible way. It will be a great day for them, it will be a great day for the world."

Meanwhile, the director of the anti-war Answer Coalition, Brian Becker, told RT that Kim's announcement to halt the missile tests was a "big step" because it "is removing all of the obstacles, the impediments, that would stop a possible, real, major development on the Korean Peninsula, bringing the Korean War to an end finally, all these decades later." He added that Pyongyang "wants a peace treaty and it wants to be able to trade and it wants to be economically integrated into the world economy."

Shows that trump has bigger balls than kim.
After this is settled, he will show xi jinping who has got the bigger balls.
Xi jinping will settle trade dispute amicably. In fact, foreign car makers have been told they do not require local partners by 2022. And all trade barriers slowly dismantled.
Chinese workers will soon start to work in US mining and building railroad again like the good old days.
