Having duped bank customers into revealing their account details, the thieves forged duplicate bank cards to drain their accounts, China Central Television said.
The machine was bought from a legitimate manufacturer, but was not affiliated to any bank, it added.

According to the paper, one man who used the machine was robbed of 5,000 yuan (735 dollars), while another person had his bank account "drained" of an unspecified amount. No arrests have yet been made.

If the thieves had the capability to nake "fake ATM machines", they would be really stupid simply to use it to collect card information.

They will soon set up a fake bank too and advertise 100% interest within one week. Surely there will gullible people fall for it

China! a nation of fakes through and through!:p

I will like to commend them for their originality

How about this?

The first known instance of a fake ATM was installed at a shopping mall in Manchester, Connecticut in 1993. By modifying the inner workings of a Fujitsu model 7020 ATM, a criminal gang known as The Bucklands Boys were able to steal information from cards inserted into the machine by customers.
