Police have released a sketch of a taxi driver suspected of tying up and robbing a passenger in the back of his cab.

They have also released a photograph of his alleged accomplice, who used the passenger’s stolen ATM card to withdraw money.

Police say the driver, thought to be in his 50s, robbed the passenger after picking her up on Fung Nam Road, Sheung Shui at about 10am on July 18, 2012.

The woman, 22, had asked to go to the Sheung Shui MTR station, but was instead driven to a secluded place where she was tied up and robbed.

“He went to the rear passenger seat and then he tied up her hands and blindfolded her with adhesive tapes,” a police spokesman said.

“He took HK$800 and a bank card from the victim and also forced her to reveal the PIN numbers of the bank card.”

The cabbie then drove the woman to Ping Che in Ta Kwu Ling, about 6km away from Fung Nam Road, before abandoning her in a public toilet.

The woman untied herself and called police.

Later that day, at about 1pm, the cabbie’s alleged accomplice, a woman in her 30s, used the stolen bank card to withdraw HK$9,500 from an ATM at Luen Wo Hui in Fanling. A surveillance camera recorded her as she made the withdrawal.

Police describe the driver as aged between 50 and 55, of a thin build and about 1.67 metres tall with short hair. The woman was described as between 35 and 40, of medium build with short hair.

The Tai Po district crime squad is investigating. People with information can contact officers on 3661 3662 or 3661 3600.
