A former freelance forex investment trader was jailed for seven months on Monday for criminal breach of trust (CBT) after she pocketed $106,986 from two clients.
Julaiha Juraimi, 40, admitted to misappropriating $75,000 belonging to lawyer Chia Quee Khee, 66, and $31,986 belonging to Mr Mustafa Kamal Sidek, 42, last year.
A district court heard that she dishonestly misappropriated the money for her own expenses because of financial difficulties.
She has since paid back $75,000 to Mr Chia but still owes Mr Mustafa about $22,0000, which she intends to repay after her release from prison, said her lawyer.
Her lawyer, Mr Paul, said his client had invested some of the money and kept the rest which she used to finance her nephew's studies in Australia.
He said she had gone through a lot in life, having lost her younger brother who died in 2000 and her boyfriend whom she was to marry 16 years ago.
He said she sold her flat in May this year and is now homeless.
