Ex-teacher jailed for sex with underage student

A FORMER school teacher who had sex with a 15-year-old female student was sentenced to 10 months' jail on Friday.
The 25-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of sexual penetration of a minor at her home in Woodlands on May 20 last year.
He is not being named to protect the identity of the girl, now 16.
A district court heard that early last year, the accused, who was the victim's co-form teacher, exchanged contact details with the girl who was asked to get a letter from her parent to explain why she had not turned up in school for a few days.
They went for a movie in March 2010 and entered into a secret romantic relationship. About two months later, he went to her home and had sex with her.
They ended their relationship in June last year.
The accused, who had a second charge considered, was given two weeks to settle his affairs before going to jail. He could have been jailed for up to 10 years and/or fined.
