Taipei, Feb. 12 (CNA) Former State Prosecutor-General Huang Shyh-ming (黃世銘) was sentenced to 15 months in prison Thursday for leaking classified information related to prosecutors' investigation.
Huang was convicted of violating the Communication Security and Surveillance Act by disclosing details of the investigation to President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) and then Premier Jiang Yi-huah (江宜樺).
The probe by the Special Investigation Division (SID) was investigating allegations of influence peddling involving Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng (王金平) and opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Ker Chien-ming (柯建銘).
The Taiwan High Court's ruling against Huang is final, although the sentence can be commuted into a fine.
The case was taken to the High Court after the Taipei District Court sentenced Huang last March to 14 months in prison.
After the district court ruling, he resigned as state prosecutor-general and on Jan. 16 this year, he retired as a chief prosecutor of the Supreme Prosecutors Office.
Ministry of Civil Service officials said Huang's conviction will not affect his right to receive a retirement pension.
Citing the Civil Service Retirement Act, they said civil servants would lose their retirement pensions only if they have been deprived of their civil rights by the court, convicted of sedition or treason, lose their Republic of China citizenship, or die.
