A FORMER Salvation Army employee who misappropriated about $35,000 was jailed for eight months on Tuesday.
Pavalakaantham Shanmugavel, 31, was a programme coordinator when she pocketed cash totalling $35,359 at the Salvation Army Bukit Panjang Family Service Centre (FSC) from November 2009 to November last year.
The FSC at Fajar Road provides day care for primary schoolchildren.
A district court heard that the offence came to light when Pavalakaantham's supervisor noticed some discrepancies when reviewing the amounts owed by customers last November, and confronted Pavalakaantham.
Pavalakaantham then admitted using the money for her general expenses and to repay loans to relatives and family members.
She could have been jailed for up to seven years and/or fined.
