A FORMER postal officer was sentenced to 33 months' jail on Thursday for stealing envelopes containing credit cards and other offences.

Andy Soh Wei Keong, 24, had admitted to nine charges of theft as a servant, cheating, abetment by conspiracy to steal, cheat and convert the benefits of his criminal conduct.

Between July and October last year, he conspired with Toh Xie Guang, 30, who had been his supervisor in a mobile phone and accessories shop, to commit theft and credit card fraud. Toh is now serving 28 months' jail.

A district court heard that sometime last July, Soh told Toh that he handled mail containing credit cards in the course of his work at the Singapore Post Centre in Eunos Road.

He said he was able to steal the letters containing the credit cards from his workplace and hand the credit cards to Toh.

The pair agreed on a plan to use the credit cards to buy Rolex watches. Toh would hand the watches to Soh who would sell them for cash and share the proceeds.
