A former hospital employee who misappropriated 3,500 sleeping tablets at National University Hospital two years ago was sentenced to three weeks in jail on Monday.

Isnawati Zainolabidin, 40, was working as a pharmacist technician when she committed criminal breach of trust of the tablets worth $2,380 at the hospital's Lower Kent Ridge Road premises.

A district court heard that during a regular stock audit on Sept 5, 2009, a pharmacist assistant reported to her senior that a huge number of tablets had been collected over the last two days.

But, the order did not tally with the usage pattern of the tablets by the hospital.

Internal investigation showed that Isnawati had requisitioned 3,500 Roche Midazolam tablets from the central pharmacy for storage at a satellite pharmacy but none of the tablets was stored there.
