Ex-moneychanger courier jailed for $216K heist

A Malaysian was given the minimum three years' jail and 12 strokes of the cane on Thursday for conspiracy to rob a moneychanger courier friend of $216,236 in April last year.

Abdul Jalil Nasar, 26, the sixth man to be convicted, admitted to conspiring with three people between April and May last year to rob Malaysian Zainun Sultan Baharuddin, 41, at a flat in Dorset Road on May 27 last year.

The victim was relieved of RM500,000 (about S$214,600),RM2,000 (about S$890), $400, and other personal belongings at about 2am on May 27 last year.

The court heard that Jalil, who is from Penang, was approached by Nurhaisimah Abdullah, 49, a Singaporean living in Kuala Lumpur, to rob Mr Zainun as she had outstanding debts to settle.
