The way I see , those rioters were just a bunch of drunk hooligans and not some determined activists fighting for a cause. Such riots won't last and will die down even without police interventions. I don't see why should PAP gives SPF give a pat on the back for 'putting down the riot'? It highly likely the riots just wane off even before the police moved in. Hence it explain why no tear gas was used.

Its proven in riots that once the looting starts, even law abiding citizens get caught up in it and join the rioting and looting. Did you know the rioters burned an ambulance? DId you know that there were 4-5 personnel in that ambulance? If they had not opened the door and run away, they would have been burned alive in there. And your solution is for the police to wait on the side for the riots to wane off and than move in? THey will be scrapping those burnt bodies off the road. Also, could it be possible that they did not use tear gas, because they did not bring any? How do I know they did not bring them and chose not to use them? How many police officers or riot police u saw were wearing or equipped with gas masks? None.
