SINGAPORE: A former director of a sea freight services was on Friday sentenced to four weeks' jail and fined S$30,000 for corruption.

Sixty-five-year-old Tan Tuck Soo, the director of Assets Shipowners and Managers, was found guilty of agreeing to give bribes to Willy Teo See Khiang to further Teo's business interests.

In July 1999, Tan approached Teo to discuss providing shipping services to Teo's company, Phosphate Resources.

Teo then requested for an additional US$0.50 per metric tons of cargo as personal commission.

Tan agreed to this as he wanted to secure the business.

Teo received a total of S$433,000 from Tan on 90 separate occasions, between 1999 and 2003.

For corruption, Tan could have been jailed up to five years and fined up to S$100,000.

Teo was jailed two days and fined a total of S$140,000 in June for accepting the bribe and abetting an employee to falsify invoices from a supplier.

Moral of the story - don;t take bribe.

65 years old already... still need to go squat overnite in the prison. What for?

Excessive desire to possess more than what one needs or deserves, especially with respect to material wealth, will lead you to the wrong path.
