A former baggage handler was jailed for 10 months on Friday for theft and voluntarily helping to dispose of stolen jewellery.

Jufri Jaffar, 33, had admitted to one count of theft of a pair of earrings from a passenger and five charges of helping to dispose of stolen items.

The total amount he and his alleged accomplice Nizam Adnan, 43, pawned at Maxi-Cash outlets came to $29,753.

A district court heard last month that Jufri, employed by Asia Pacific Star, was working at Budget Terminal, Changi Airport, on May 26 last year when he opened an unlocked baggage and stole a pair of gold earrings worth $136 from an Indian national.
