More than $190,000 worth of drugs were seized from a Malaysian woman who tried to enter Singapore via Woodlands Checkpoint on Wednesday morning. The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA) said in a statement that the 39-year-old motorcyclist, who had been travelling alone, was stopped for checks at about 6am. During the course of the checks, ICA officers noticed that the woman was wearing two layers of undergarments. Upon closer inspection, three bundles, each wrapped with black tape, were found on her. The bundles contained about 950g of heroin, 34g of "Ice" and 500 Erimin-5 tablets. She was later handed over, together with the seized bundles, to the Central Narcotics Bureau for further investigation. If convicted, the woman may face the death penalty. ICA said that it has tightened security checks on passengers and vehicles at its checkpoints to prevent attempts to smuggle in "undesirable persons, drugs, weapons, explosives and other contraband". It added: "The same methods of concealment used by contraband smugglers may be used by terrorists to smuggle arms and explosives to carry out attacks in Singapore." [email protected]
