SINGAPORE - A cyclist was fined $6,000 and banned from driving all vehicles for five years on Tuesday, reported The Straits Times.
Shoel Abdul Bayes, 35, a Bangladeshi marine trades worker, was found to have caused the death of a motorcyclist in the accident on Jan 4, 2011.
Bayes had failed to keep a proper lookout when filtering to the right lane, resulting in a collision with the deceased, Mr Toh Eng Huat, 57.
Mr Toh, a delivery driver, hit the back of the bicycle and skidded to a halt 28m away. Bayes was also thrown off his bicycle upon impact.
Mr Toh died about seven hours later in hospital from his injuries.

A Singapore court on Wednesday annulled a five-year driving ban given to a cyclist who caused a fatal accident last year.
Bangladeshi worker Shohel Abdul Bayes, 35, was earlier fined $6,000 and banned from driving all motor vehicles for his negligent act, which resulted in the death of motorcyclist Toh Eng Huat, 57.
Shohel had failed to keep a proper lookout when filtering to the right lane along Admiralty Road West on Jan 4, 2011, resulting in a collision with the deceased.
Mr Toh, a delivery driver, hit the back of the bicycle and skidded to a halt some 30m away. Shohel was also thrown off his bicycle upon impact.
Mr Toh died about seven hours later in hospital from his injuries, which included a broken skull and rib fractures.
During sentencing on Tuesday, District Judge Liew Thiam Leng ordered the five-year driving ban for Shohel, but had it annulled today.
He said that under the Road Traffic Act, the person must be driving a motor vehicle before such an order can be made, The Straits Times reported today.
The bicycle which Shohel was riding was a normal one and not mechanically propelled, the report added.
Shohel has been working in Singapore since 1999 and was promoted to marine supervisor in 2009.
