A businessman who bribed an apprentice jockey for 'insider information' was fined a total of $5,000 on Thursday on five charges.

Cogan Swee Yong Huat, 57, pleaded guilty to five of 11 charges of giving between $200 and $450 to Mohamad Azrull Mohamad Sani to induce him to part with stable information about race horses not publicly available to Swee.

A district court heard that the two met through a stable boy in August 2004 and struck an agreement whereby Swee would provide Azrull with financial support. In return, Azrull would provide him with 'insider information' on the horses that he had gained during his track training.

In December 2004, Swee gave Azrull $450 for medical bills and transportation fees after Azrull said he fell from a horse and needed to pay for his medical bills.
