Take advantage of the China-Singapore FTA
By CHUANG PECK MING
TAP on the China-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (CSFTA) to potentially enjoy tariff savings of between one per cent and 35 per cent if you meet the rules of origin. The CSFTA covers areas ranging from trade in goods to technical barriers and economic cooperation. As an exporter, it is vital that your exports remain competitive and affordable for the consumer.
Under the CSFTA, Singapore-originating goods enjoy a preferential tariff rate of zero per cent, which allows your Chinese partner to potentially benefit from tariff savings of $9,000 for an export value of $100,000. This gives you a cost advantage when exporting to the Chinese market.
The CSFTA builds on the existing commitments of the Asean-China FTA but tariffs are reduced to zero per cent from Jan 1, 2010 for more than 7,400 products.
