With rumors of her having AIDS escalating, Taiwanese popstar Elva Hsiao (蕭亞軒) finally spoke out about the issue on May 13. Elva updated her Instagram stressing that she does not have AIDS and will pursue legal action against the false claims.

Ever since taking a hiatus from her work in 2017 due to health issues, Elva has kept a rather low profile and there were no official updates regarding her status. However, speculations cropped up regarding Elva’s health, with claims stating that she has contracted AIDS. Although her studio already denied the allegations, Elva posted angrily on her social media account yesterday, “I’m very unhappy and I feel terrible for my mom. Not only have the rumors hurt me, but they have hurt my mom!”

Rumours about her mystery illness sparked in 2017 after Elva announced that she was taking a temporary break from her career. The singer has been lying low since then and rarely shared her updates on social media.

Elva Hsiao celebrates 36th birthday without S'porean boyfriend by her side

one person missing from the celebrations was her boyfriend of a year, Singaporean businessman Elroy Cheo.

According to My Paper, Cheo presumably had family matters to attend to, after he posted a photo of himself with his family in Singapore on the day of Hsiao's birthday.

The Instagram photo showed his family of five, including older sister Arissa Cheo, the wife of Taiwanese artiste Van Ness Wu.

It is not the first time rumours of a rift between Hsiao and Cheo have surfaced. Last month, Hsiao's fans lambasted Cheo for being 'childish' after he unfollowed her on Instagram following a lovers' tiff, according to speculation. But the pair apparently made up and he followed her account again within 24 hours.

The 39-year-old singer reportedly returned to Vancouver, Canada, to recuperate, but her condition remained unstable as she suffered from frequent fever and headaches.

She went silent on social media for another four months before she posted a photo of her hand with a bracelet and henna tattoos, with the caption "The strongest hearts have the most scars".

She might have become ill as a result of stress and overwork when she was practising her dance routines for her new album. She wanted it to be perfect.


“She has seen many doctors but her condition is not improving,” the agency said.

The paper also said that Hsiao has declined 13 singing performances in China worth RM16.5mil
