Electric heaters melt. Walmart recalls 2 million units.

Dec 18,

In a recent development, retail giant Wal-Mart has decided to recall over 2 million electric heaters following the directive of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The retailer is recalling heaters belonging to Comfort Essentials, Aloha Breeze, Airtech and Flow Pro brands.

The heaters which are Chinese made, were sold at the outlets of Wal-Mart from, as it has been reported. The average cost of these heaters are $18.

Wal-Mart has said in a statement that these heaters are prone to malfunctioning and can cause melting, fire and smoke. So far 21 reports of injury cases has been reported. The users have complained about damage to their property while few users needed medical treatment as well.

The heaters that are being recalled by Wal-Mart are grey and have metal handles at top. The retailers have asked the users to stop using these models and contact any Wal-Mart outlet for claiming refund. These heaters have a power rating of 1500 watts.

The heaters can malfunction as they have a glitch in design and that can lead to smoke, burning and fire. The toll free helpline of Wal-Mart can be used for more information on the recall. Alternately one can see the website of the retail giant for recall related information.

The festive season is ahead and winter is at full swing. Heaters become a necessity at this time of the year. Hence, the users of these faulty heaters can return them to Wal-Mart and obtain a full refund. There are plenty of cheap and more reliable heaters available in the market.

It is better to be proactive and do the recall than something happens and get sued or worse still, class action suit.

Wal-Mart is very vulnerable because almost all (if not all) their goods are sourced from ultra-cheap sources. But that is also their advantage. They just have to keep on their toes and have a third-party (and their own) QC for incoming merchandise because they cannot rely on their suppliers' own QC; ISO or not.

Cheers!
