Since 1991, walkover rates have hovered around 50% for each election. This means that around 50% of the seats of each election are uncontested and the People's Action Party wins them uncontested without constituents having to cast a single vote. Even before the total votes are counted, the PAP has more or less won the election due to extremely high walkover rates.

democracy, singaporean style.

singaporeans are all so happy with their government that they dont even contest elections. there are only 2 opposition mps in parliament today and there has never been a shadow cabinet in parliament throughout the history of singapore.

singaporeans trust their government a lot. singaporeans dont live in fear. they do not fear their government and do not go "shuussh" when you mention names of certain politicians or talk about politics.

the singapore government also does not persecute opposition politicians or use rediculous fear mongering tactics like telling the populace that the entire country will be bankrupted, buildings will burn and the entire country will be in chaos without them.

singaporeans, aren't you happy to live in such a wonderful democracy where there is so much trust and no fear ? :)

Proportional Representation - 2nd vote for favored political party.

This way, everybody get to vote.

The system more clearly represents the wishes of the voters’ as expressed at the ballot box.
Fewer votes are 'wasted'
Minority parties might end up with a much fairer representation.

The ruling party is not concerned with the "wishes of the voters" or "wasting of votes" or "fairer representation for minority parties".
They are concerned with what keeps more of them in power for the longest possible time.
