Elderly woman falls into coma after snatch theft incident
MALACCA: A 70-year-old woman slipped into a coma after she sustained head injuries during a snatch theft involving two men at Jalan Gajah Berang here last Friday.
State CID chief ACP Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah said the woman, from Taman Asean Malim, fell and hit her head on the road, and was now at the Malacca Hospital's intensive care unit.
"The victim was walking with her sister about 10.20 am when two men on a motorbike snatched her handbag containing RM50," he said at a press conference here Tuesday.
He said the same suspects were believed to have attempted snatching a 17-year-old salesgirl's gold chain about 20 minutes earlier, at the Jalan Tengkera bus stop.
When the girl held on to her chain, the pillion rider hit her on the head with his helmet, but luckily she only sustained minor injuries, he added.
He appealed to members of the public who had witnessed the incidents to come forward and assist the police. - Bernama
