1.The median price of houses in Auckland is now close the $1 million. There is no HDB here to provide first time home owners with cheap entry into the property market and interest rates are far higher for those who need a loan.

2. Personal income tax is 2x to 3x higher compared to Singapore.

3. Company taxes are double that of Singapore's.

4. Heating in winter costs the earth. Average household bills for heating are between $400 to $600 per month during the winter months.

5. Council rates are far higher than Singapore's property tax rates.

6. Services cost the earth. Plumbers charge $120 per hour and $220 per hour for emergencies.

7. Electricians charge $110 per hour.

8. Eating out is $15 per person minimum.

9. Because government healthcare is so inadequate people are forced to pay for private health insurance. My bill now is $180 per month.

The only thing cheaper is cars but the savings don't make up for the higher costs of just about everything else.

Singaporeans should count themselves extremely lucky to live in such a well run city.

The simple secret to achieve "success" is to have a can-do attitude in everything that you do. Or, in the alternative, learn to accept that "success" does not always mean "material" success as most Singaporeans are wont to do. This materialistic definition of "success" is one of the root causes why Singaporeans are continually unhappy. Compound with the lack of can-do attitude, they then start blaming everyone, God, the PAP, etc except themselves for whatever "predicament" they are supposedly in. Can't enjoy sex because of small flat? PAP's fault! Does that even make any sense to you?

Singaporeans who let themselves be persuaded by his harmful half truths will end up as the eventual losers. I dont compare myself with others. There is no need for me to compare with anyone. I do things my way. And you are right. I believe I must be a master of my own destiny. That's why I disagree with what PAP is doing and I dont do things the way pap wants Singaporeans to do. PAP will not like Singaporeans like me who question them. That's why they rather I migrate but i choose to stay.

I am blessed that I have choices. Not many Singaporeans are as blessed as me. Therefore, I dont taunt Singaporeans who are trapped by the pap because I know that many dont have a choice.

So when I can, I always speak up.

I disagree with you that everyone has the privilege to make choices. And I do agree with such Singaporeans who blaming the pap for the high cost of living, etc.

Unless you are in their shoes, please dont admonish them for feeling trapped and accuse them of wrongly blaming others. Who are we to think we know them and their situation better than they do themselves?

If you read my posts. you will find that I am optimistic abt myself. Is that a sign of someone who doesnt have control?

I believe in making things happen and dont believe in pap making things happen for me. But how many are as fortunate as me? So I try to empathise with Singaporeans who feel trapped by the pap
