Happy to be at the 54th St. Gallen Symposium, joining other esteemed speakers to discuss the topic of “Shifting Global Power”.
This is especially timely, given complex and far-reaching shifts in geopolitics. In such a landscape, small states can play an important role to foster free markets and collaborations to address common societal challenges.
I shared how Singapore seeks to contribute by remaining open, investing in innovation, and building partnerships across borders — grounded in a strong belief in multilateralism and international cooperation.
Small states like Singapore and Switzerland can serve as neutral, trusted nodes. Our work with Swiss and other international partners, such as through the Singapore-ETH Centre and our research collaborations, reflects this spirit.
I also spoke at a special Singapore-themed dinner yesterday, as we mark 25 years of Singapore’s participation at the St. Gallen Symposium.
Thank you to the St. Gallen team and Singapore Economic Development Board - EDB for organising these meaningful engagements, and to all who joined us for the thoughtful conversations.

I recently sat down with SPH Chinese Media Group Editor-in-Chief, Lee Huay Leng, to reflect on my 15-year journey in politics — how I got started, what has guided me through this journey, and why I’ve decided that now is the right time to retire.
We also spoke about my hopes and concerns for Singapore’s future, including how we must sustain good governance, nurture future generations, and stay united in navigating changes and challenges ahead of us.

PM Lawrence Wong announced his new Cabinet today.
The new Cabinet strikes a good balance between continuity and renewal, with Jeffrey Siow （萧振祥） and David Neo being appointed Acting Ministers, and other newly-elected MPs like Jasmin Lau 刘洁敏, Goh Pei Ming 吴培铭, Goh Hanyan 吴函燕 and Dr Syed Harun Alhabsyi appointed as office holders. At the same time, DPM Gan Kim Yong and the three coordinating ministers will form the core of PM’s Cabinet, and mentor our next generation of leaders.
I’m also happy that Dinesh Vasu Dash தினேஷ் வாசு தாஸ் 迪內希, who has taken over from me at the Bedok Division in East Coast GRC, has been appointed as Mayor of South East District, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth - MCCY, and the Singapore Ministry of Manpower.
I have full confidence that PM Wong and his team will give their all in service of Singapore and Singaporeans. I hope all Singaporeans will give them your full support, as they continue to steer us through the challenges ahead, and towards a brighter future.

It was inspiring to read about Emyr and Prajesh returning to Mount Kinabalu, 10 years after the tragic Sabah quake. They are former Tanjong Katong Primary School students who were part of the ill-fated expedition to Mount Kinabalu. They embarked on this meaningful journey to complete the quest, and honour their friends who perished.
This tragic incident, where we lost seven students and two teachers, remains the saddest moment for me as Minister for Education.
I remember visiting the families at the wakes of the victims. I understand that some parents went the next year to complete the trek. We witnessed resilience and unity as the community came together in support of those who lost their loved ones and friends — a moving reminder of the Singapore spirit, standing by one another in times of need.

Congratulations to Desmond Lee who has been appointed Chairman of People's Action Party CEC (Central Executive Committee), as well as to Ong Ye Kung and Chee Hong Tat 徐芳达 on their respective appointments as Party Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer. I am happy Assoc Prof Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim has also been co-opted as a new member and appointed as Chairperson of the PAP Malay Affairs Bureau!
I had earlier informed Sec Gen Lawrence Wong that as I was retiring from politics, I would also like to retire from the CEC for leadership renewal of the PAP.
It is my honour and privilege to have served on the CEC and to contribute to the leadership and renewal of our Party. I thank my fellow CEC members for the trust and camaraderie we have shared, and for working together to uphold the ideals and vision of the Party that founding Secretary General Lee Kuan Yew and his fellow comrades set out to achieve.
I am glad to have done my small part in improving the lives of Singaporeans, and the standing of Singapore in the world.
I wish Chairman Desmond Lee, Sec Gen Lawrence Wong and the team success in continuing to win the trust and confidence of Singaporeans and in taking Singapore forward!
