I will state categorically here there is no chance of a coalition gov in SIngapore
even if there is, the one mostly to jump in bed with PAP is NSP because they are the 3rd party
coalition gov appear only when parties outside the big 2, like NSP and SDP and SPP are able to win substantial number of seats ...
this is not possible in a FPTP because Duverger's law will lead to a 2 party system.....
in the very rare case we have a multi-party scenario like in UK, here where we do have NSP and SDP and SPP winning some seats, WP will not form coalition gov with PAP because it is s absurd for the top 2 party to form a coalition gov, they will be courting the seats outside the other parties, in the rare case of a hung parliament.... which almost certainly will not exist in singapore.
because even in a case of:
PAP 40 seats
WP 40 seats
japalang 15 seats
WP and PAP will still not form coalition gov with each other because they derived their identity from each other, its like Joker telling Batman, "you define me"... so they will never form coalition gov
it will be like Labour and Tories forming a coalition gov or Dem and Republicans forming a coalition gov....
to suggest WP and PAP will form a coalition gov is simply ludicrous and show a poltical naivety of the highest order...
but all this will not happen, because NSP and SDP and SPP will not win more than 10 seats combined in the worst case scenario.
in 2 party system, the party who got a simple majority will form a gov...
its also a fact that WP will become more like PAP and PAP will become more like WP, just like how in the USA, DEM and REP and indistinguisable, likewise in UK
those who wan an alternative gov or WP to be completely different from PAP like RafflesTiger are just dreaming because this is notch acceptable to most sinkies, it like wishing for the tea party to win congress or sarah palin to win white house.
Sinkies vote WP because it is safe and it must continue to be safe ... there is a reason why SDP exist and why SDP dun win seats...
already I feel that Gerald, Sylvia and Low are trying very hard to hold back their socialist side, if sinkies know huat they truly think they will be out of parliament.
