Dundee United’s Nadir Ciftci has been accused of grabbing an assistant referee by the throat and could be banned for 16 matches. The striker was sent off for his part in a 20-man brawl during Tuesday’s League Cup defeat by Inverness at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.
The accusation is of excessive misconduct for allegedly 'seizing' Gavin Harris, the assistant ref.
Sent off: Dundee Utd's Nadir Ciftci was dismissed by referee Kevin Clancy
The 21-year-old also faces a count of violent conduct for the claim that he grabbed an Inverness player by the face face. United appealed his red card before the Scottish Football Association issued the two disciplinary notices. The club are yet to comment further but his case is to be heard on Thursday.
Argumentative: And a brawl developed in the match against Inverness
Summer signing: The striker has scored seven goals in 13 appearances since arriving in the summer
Ciftci was shown a straight red just before half-time after the brawl, which was triggered by Gary Mackay-Steven going to ground following a clash with Inverness skipper Richie Foran. He joined Dundee United in July on a two-year contract and has seven goals in 13 appearances this season, and has November 7 to respond.
